Recently Gerard was commissioned to create the illustration for two book jackets. They are shown as follows:
This painting is new work and has already been delivered to its owner. It is a painting of the old man in the book "The Old Man and the Sea" written by Hemingway. In the book, Santiago, the main character struggles against many odds to bring home a huge Marlin. There are religious overtones in the book, one of which is the struggles encountered each day by each of us. However the inspiration to produce the painting was grounded in a meditation. The focus upon the title "Covenant" emerged during the painting process. The painting speaks to and is a constant reminder of God's covenant.
"I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life."
